Wrestling
This is our first year having wrestling as a KIF sport.
Major Changes for 2012 and 2013
For a high school, regulation size is a minimum of 38' x 38' mat with a minimum of a 28' circle. There must be a minimum protection area (out of bounds) of 5' surrounding wrestling circle. A 10' wrestling circle and starting lines are required.
Rule Description of change
- WR- 1.16 Videotaping. In dual meets, a referee may use the official, predesignated mat-side video to review a flagrant misconduct call.
- 13 2.1.1 Neutral Starting Position. The command “Set” added to the neutral start.
- 2.1.5 Granting an Escape. The offensive wrestler may grant the opponent an escape before assuming the offensive starting position.
- 3.15 Breaking Ties in Dual Meets or Team-Advancement Tournaments. Ties in dual meets have been eliminated; in addition, the tie-breaking criteria have been simplified.
- 3.21 Error Review Request. Coach may request an official mat-side video review of scoring, timing, match results, and procedural errors; the referee has the option to grant or deny the review.
- 5.6 Flagrant Misconduct. Coaches and institutional representatives added to flagrant miscon- duct rule .
- 5.9 Stalling. This section has been written to further define and simplify the inter- pretation of stalling. Stalling penalty sequence changed: first violation is a warning, the second and subsequent violations award one match point to the opponent.
- 6.1.3 Injury Timeout. The first nonbleeding timeout taken results in the opponent awarded choice of position on restart; second nonbleeding timeout taken by the same wrestler results in a one-point award to the opponent .
