Academic Requirement for Participation in Co-Curricular Activities
The BOE is committed to the promotion of high academic achievement. Students participating in co-curricular student activities must have at least an overall 2.0 GPA and be passing in all courses required for graduation.
Participation Guidelines
- In the grading period preceding the activity, a student must have passed all required graduation courses and have at least an overall 2.0 GPA
- The grades used to determine the GPA for eligibility to participate in co-curricular student activities shall be year, semester, and/or quarter grades depending on their availability.
- The relevant GPA is computed or based on all courses in which a student is enrolled, not just those required for graduation.
- The GPA shall be computed on the grading scales as follows:
Regular Courses AP Courses
A=4.0 A=5.0
B=3.0 B=4.0
C=2.0 C=3.0
D=1.0 D=2.0
F=-0 F=0
- All incoming 9thgraders; new, out-of-state, or out-of-country transfer students; and new transfer students from Hawai`i private schools are eligible to participate during the first quarter if all transcripts are in and GPA is sufficient (2.0 or higher).
*Except for National Honor Society, students may apply to be in a chartered school club during their membership drives. They must adhere to the school & club guidelines, policies, rules, and regulations. Permission forms for club activities will be given out on an individual activity basis.
